The dress of the Herero has taken on real significance during the project. Herero women adopted the gowns worn by German missionaries in the late 19th century as a permanent reminder of the great scar gashed into the tribe’s history. The Herero dress is heavy with symbolism holding the memory, the suffering and also importantly the strength of a people to recover.

This piece honours this dress, using torn up canvas applied with paint, caulk collage to make up a patchwork effect.
